The flag, or colours, above is that of the Regiment von Knyhausen and features the distinctive "Peppermint Lion" of the house of Hesse-Cassel.
The distinctive black and blue border of this website is designed to suggest the uniform coats of the Regiment. The men of Knyphausen wore dark blue wool coats with black velvet facings.
